It is not a myth. I know that some 40 years ago, my father -- who is 80 years old now -- contacted a man who was probably 40 years older than he was who hunted and fished in that area. He went up and cut my father a piece of the Clotilda off. There is a piece of it at the Smithsonian in Washington. My father also has a piece of it that he had an African head carved out of. So the ship is there, and most of the older people around the Magazine Point area knew where it was 40 years ago. But now I don't know if anyone is still living who knows exactly where it is. Williams Sr., founder of AfricaTown, tells the story of the Voyage of the Clotilde while aboard the Jamelle III Friday at the Alabama State Docks.
